Friendship "Scrap-Card" Tutorial

I made this "Scrap-Card" especially for one of my closest friends whose daughter and mine became best friends in first grade. They just recently graduated from 8th grade this past June.

Stamp: Dreams du Jour
Paper: Bella Rose DSP, Whisper White, Chocolate Chip
Ink: Riding Hood Red, Pink Pirouette, Kiwi Kiss, Old Olive
Acc: Rhinestone Brad, Rose Red Button, Blender Pen, Crop-a-Dile, 5" Red Hemp, Scallop Edge Punch, Corner Rounder Punch, Sticky Tape, Dimensionals, Sander, Tombow Mono Adhesive, 2 Rectangle Coasters, Cardboard Backing from DSP Pkg, Reg. and Scallop Sq. Nestabilities
Stamp image on Whisper White with Riding Hood Red ink. Squeeze closed ink pads of Kiwi Kiss and Pink Pirouette then open the pads to expose the smudged ink on the inside cover. Using blender pens, dip the tips onto the ink and color leaves and flowers of the stamped image being careful so the colors don't bleed together. Trim and adhere onto Chocolate Chip

Trace the coasters onto two coordinating DSP:

2 - singles of the same design (for inside cover)
Trim corners with corner rounder punch and adhere to coaster.

1 - large piece with coordinating design
For this large piece, place the two single coasters 3/8" apart side by side over the reverse side of the DSP pattern you will use, trace and cut. Trim corners with the corner rounder punch.

Tape the red hemp onto the back center of the right inside edge. Apply glue to the back of the matching coaster and adhere it to the right side of the DSP, making sure not to put glue where the sticky strip will touch. Repeat with the second coaster except omit the hemp.

Fold the "scrap-card" in the middle and measure from edge to edge. Cut another coordinating DSP that length by 1-1/2". Trim edges using the scallop edge punch and glue in place, making sure the red hemp is in the center of this band when attached.

Sand the edges inside and outside to give it a clean even look and also to give it a distressed look.

With the Crop-a-Dile, punch a hole through the button and another hole through the center front edge of the "scrap-card." I cut a mini glue dot in half and placed each half on top of the button on each side of the hole before slipping the rhinestone through it. This would prevent the button from moving around too much.

Slip the brad through the button then through the hole on the "scrap-card," but before opening the prongs, put a paperclip between the button and the chipboard (see photo). Now open the prongs on the inside. This little space allows the hemp to be wound for closing purpose.
Note: the prongs can be covered with a frame later.

Next, stamp the butterfly with Old Olive, trim then "draw" around the edges with the 2-way glue.

Dip the image into Dazzling Diamonds. Now you're ready to decorate the card front and inside.

I attached the image I stamped earlier and added a little Dew Drop to one of the flowers. When I attached the butterfly, it looked a little lost, so I cut out one of the roses from the Bella Rose papers and darkened the edges a little with Regal Rose ink and a blender pen. I glued that to the front before attaching the butterfly with dimensionals. For the white frames inside, I used the white cardboard backing from the DSP packaging it came in. The sentiments were typed on the computer.

Christmas Wreath Card

Here's a card I made for two challenges. The first challenge was for the group I'm a member of called NMBS Group Blog -- go check out our blog which is full of samples and challenges. The other was a sketch challenge for OCC. There are some great challenges over there, so go check it out, too.

I decided to make a Christmas card because I need to get as many done as possible. Everything I used here is from SU!. The background stamp is Canvas on the Riding Hood Red card stock. For the wreath, I first punched a circle with the 1-1/4" circle punch using Old Olive, then centered the round scallop punch around that and punched it out. I punched out several Three for You using Old Olive and Kiwi Kiss card stock and placed them on top of a foam of some sort and pushed down the middle with a stylus or dull object to make the petals curl up a little in the center. I then glued them around the edges of the round scallop. That's pretty much it for my wreath.

This challenge was really fun and I actually was able to use it for two challenges (the other challenge was for a sketch layout). Thanks, Barbara. I think I'll make more of these for Christmas!

Thanks again for visiting!

Personalized Window Christmas Card - Tutorial

Stamp: Window Dressing, Lovely as a Tree
Paper: Whisper White- 4-3/8" x 3-1/4" Cuttlebugged with Snow Folder
Baja Breeze- 8-1/2" x 5-1/2 (folded); 4" x 3"
Riding Hood Red- 4-1/8" x 5-3/8"; 4-1/2" x 3-1/2"
Kiwi Kiss- Scraps
Ink: Old Olive, Riding Hood Red, VersaMark, Close to Cocoa Marker
Acc: 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon Old Olive 6", Small Oval Punch, Brads, Coluzzle, White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Dimensionals, Mini Glue Dots, 2-Way Glue Pen, Fun Flocks

Stamp the window stamp onto the Baja Breeze c/s with VersaMark. Pour White Embossing Powder over the stamped image, shake excess off and return back into container.

Emboss with heat tool until powder is melted.

Stamp the sentiment above the window frame with Old Olive ink. With the circle Coluzzle, cut a half circle right above the sentiment. Trim the window piece to measure 2-1/2" x 3-3/4".

Cut along the inside windows. (To make it easier to begin cutting, punch a hole anywhere inside the window big enough to be able to insert scissors.)

Lay the window piece, facing down, on Riding Hood Red c/s (pictured here it's facing up) and trace the entire window piece. Cut along 1/8" beyond the outside of the traced line.

Crop two small photos and adhere to the red c/s, making sure it lines up with the holes of the windows. Attach the window piece onto the red c/s with dimensionals. I decided to change the color of the sentiment -- so, I stamped Riding Hood Red onto Kiwi Kiss c/s, trimmed closely around it and then attached it over my old sentiment with dimensionals.

For the tree, dab the tree stamp onto the Old Olive ink pad. With a paper towel, wipe off the ink from the ground and trunk -- all the way up as much as you can. Using Close to Cocoa marker, color in the trunk and branches that were just rubbed off. "Huff" on the rubber and stamp the image onto Kiwi Kiss c/s.

Now comes the time-consuming part -- trimming the tree. But the more careful you are, the better it looks!

Time to add snow!

With the 2-Way Glue Pen, put glue where you'd like to have the "snow" on the tree and sprinkle Fun Flocks over it. I like to turn the c/s over and press down where I've placed the glue to make sure the Fun Flocks adheres very well.

Turn over and shake off the excess. When you're done, you should have a tree with "snow" on its branches.

Now it's time to put it all together.

Glue the 4-1/8" x 5-3/8" Riding Hood Red c/s to the Baja Breeze card base.

I distressed the edge of the white Cuttlebugged c/s then glued the window piece onto it, leaving room at the top for the ribbon.

Glue half of the tree on the right "shutter" and use dimensionals on the other half of the tree to attach to the card base.

Attach the tied ribbon at the center top of the window frame with glue dots.

Use the small oval punch to punch out the "have yourself a" (computer typed) and attach brads to each end and adhere it to the center top of the card with dimensionals.

Celebrate-Gift Card Holder

We were invited to a birthday brunch and I had put off getting the present and making the card because I'd been so sick for over a week now. So, last night I finally made two cards for the party (my mother-in-law was going to the same party and asked me to make one for her, too). I decided to give the easiest gift to give -- a gift card! Here's the 5" x 5" card I made to hold the gift card. To hold the card, the inside cover is punched using the window punch 1-1/4 times -- one time is not wide enough for the gift card. Just make sure to put glue only on the side edges of the front card layer when adhering, otherwise, it will interfere when inserting the gift card on the inside cover.

Embossing on Acetate: Tutorial

Supplies:
Acetate Sheet
Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder
Heat Tool
Whisper White Craft Ink Pad
Stamp
Tweezers (optional)
Weights

With Craft Ink, stamp image onto the acetate sheet, being careful not to let the stamp slide.

Pour Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder over the stamped image and return the excess back to its container.

Tip: Use a large shallow container to store your embossing powder in. It's much easier to use than the small container it comes in.

Weights often help to keep the sheet flat. Just look for heavy objects to hold down the sides of the acetate before using the heat tool. Or, you can just use tweezers to hold the acetate while using the heat tool if warping is not an issue.

Begin embossing the stamped image with the heat tool, moving the heat tool in circular motion. If the embossing powder hasn't melted completely yet and you see that the acetate sheet is starting to warp, stop for a minute before continuing with the heat tool. Repeat this step until you are satisfied with the way the powder has melted. (Note: There will be some warping, but not enough to distract from the card itself.)

"Celebrate" Bag

What an easy and elegant bag to make! It uses one of my favorite DSPs, which I hope doesn't end up on the Retired Accessories List.

Stamp: Labelicious
Paper: Blue Bayou, Very Vanilla, Spring Silhouette DSP
Ink: Blue Bayou
Acc: Pretties Kit, Vanilla Taffeta Ribbon, Dimensionals, Mini Glue Dots, Scallop Scissors, "Gift Bag" Favor Bag

•Cut 1 strip of Very Vanilla: 1-1/2" x 7"
•Cut 2 strips of Blue Bayou: 1-3/8" x 2-5/8"
•Cut 2 strips of DSP: 1-1/4" x 2-5/8"
•Cut taffeta ribbon: 11"
Trim long edge of Very Vanilla with scalloped scissors and attach to center of bag; first on one side, then on the bottom and over to the other side. Attach Blue Bayou strips on each side. On top of that, attach the DSP. Wrap taffeta ribbon over center of layer and tie a bow towards the front of one side. Using mini glue dots, hold ribbon in place, especially close to the top edge of the bag.

• Cut Very Vanilla: 1-3/8" x 1-5/8"
• Cut Very Vanilla: 1-1/2" x 1-3/4"
• Cut Blue Bayou 1-3/8" x 1/5/8"
Stamp "celebrate" onto the 1-3/8" Vanilla, attach a half pearl on the top center and trim the edges with scalloped scissors. Attach to the Blue Bayou piece making sure the edges of Blue Bayou is showing. Trim the edges of the larger Vanilla with the scalloped scissors and attach this under the other layers. Now, take the entire layer and attach it over the taffeta ribbon using dimensionals.

Shown here is another option with no stamping.
